Skilled Management and Supervision Essentials: Spring 2023
Everyone remembers a good manager or supervisor. We remember why they were good, how skilled they were, and specific times when we felt supported and empowered. Often we take these skills for granted, and many managers and supervisors learn these skills and abilities through trial and error. However, being a skilled manager and supervisor requires continuous development of abilities, experiences, and knowledge.
This course will cover a myriad of skills and abilities for managers and supervisors to have at their fingertips including: race equity, trauma-informed supervision, supervising people with lived and living experience, self-care and creating a culture of self-care, management vs leadership, and delegation dos and don’ts.
This course is designed to introduce new managers and supervisors to a range of concepts and encourage seasoned managers and supervisors to recap or brush up on their skills.
Learning Objectives:
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
- Explain to colleagues the myriad of skills and abilities they need to lead teams and support colleagues
- Articulate their increased knowledge related to each topic, and how the subjects build on one another for a holistic perspective
- Identify the topics and subjects during the course that most interest them, and have a clear path towards further learning.

- Participants will participate in weekly live webinars with the instructors. They will also have access to weekly readings, videos, and other actives on the learning page. They will be quizzed on the knowledge they learn from the live webcasts and learning activities every week to ensure understanding.

Meet the Faculty:
Jon Cox, BS, has twenty-five years of experience working in homelessness, substance use, and supportive housing in the U.S. and United Kingdom. Jon focuses on housing and homelessness technical assistance and is a subject matter expert in recovery housing. He has provided technical assistance to numerous Continuums of Care, led the design and implementation of a diversion program with Ohio’s Balance of State Continuum of Care, and supports communities to increase recovery housing capacity and implement Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) protocols within recovery residences. Livia Davis, MSW, is responsible for corporate learning direction, goals and policies. She has over 25 years leadership and management experience in behavioral health, recovery and supportive housing. Livia is an experienced facilitator in supporting federal, state and local communities build critical capacity to expand, improve, and sustain services and a member of C4's Racial Equity and Recovery consultation team focusing on the implementation of anti-racist practices in recovery. Her career spans over 15 years of experience as a direct service provider working in behavioral health, recovery, housing, and homeless services, and 10 years as a facilitator of initiatives focused on convening stakeholders to work together to transform entrenched positions to move forward together. Her first-hand experience living and working in a large recovery community in Denmark (founded by her great-grandfather in 1912 and with 125 people residing and working there) is the foundation for her commitment to advance recovery, equity, and building community. Various national media (CNN, Washington Post, Boston Globe) have covered her work to promote innovative solutions to address homelessness.
Ashley Stewart, Ph.D., MSW, LSW received her Ph.D. from The Ohio State University, College of Social Work, and her master’s at Columbia University. Dr. Stewart is a Director at C4 Innovations. In this role, she provides technical assistance, training, and industrial/organizational support to national organizations, boards of directors, and behavioral health organizations on implementing anti-racist and equitable practices. She utilizes an equity-centered approach to ensure that diversity and inclusion efforts move forward and reduce harm in sustainable ways. Her work includes assessing the intersections of identity, structural oppression, wellness, and policy. In addition to the advanced study of the consequence and causes of identity-based oppression, Dr. Stewart supports implementing anti-oppressive practices in organizational, structural, programmatic, and interpersonal interventions.
Jill Amos has been working in mental health and addiction services for nearly 2 decades as a treatment provider and advocate for people in recovery. She oversaw the certification process for Peer Recovery Support Specialists for Oklahoma for 8 years after working as a Consumer Advocate in treatment services. She also managed the State of Oklahoma Employee Assistance Program where she supported state workers navigating tremendous change and losses during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Access is automatically provided to this course once purchased. Therefore, no refund will be given. For special circumstances before the live sessions begin, C4 may cancel your registration and move your credit to another module of equal value or refund the course to the original source of payment.
Training Certificates:
Participants may earn a Certificate of Course Completion* by:
- Attending all six, live webcasts (or watching the entire recording of each live session)
- Completing all required learning activities
- Scoring 80% or higher on each weekly quiz
- Completing the course evaluation form and the certificate request form
9 hours of continuing education credit will be awarded upon completion of this course through ASWB and NAADAC. 9 hours of continuing education credit will be awarded upon completion of this course through NBCC. Certificates will be emailed directly to participants roughly two weeks after the completion of the final webcast.

In order to fully complete this course and receive a continuing education certificate from one of the following boards, you must pass each of the six weekly quizzes with an 80% or higher (you will have unlimited retests) along with the final evaluation. The required posttest questions will be at the end of each week's section and the required evaluation will be provided at the completion of the course. Upon successful completion of this course, you can request a certificate using the certificate request form posted with the evaluation and on your learning page. C4 Innovations will then review your course completion and email you a certificate within 2-3 weeks in PDF format. If you are social worker, you will need to write in your license number in the certificate request form for us to be able to include it in your certificate.
C4 Innovations, Provider #1457, is approved to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Organizations, not individual courses, are approved as ACE providers.
